Project Safe water borehole for Gongontol, Wa West District
The Gongontol community are now enjoying the simple necessity of life-potable safe water. After over 100 years since the place has been settled, this is the first time they have their own borehole. This will mean no more suffering of walking to the stream and digging in a sump hole where the water is shared with animals, no more water borne diseases that causes severe sickness and absenteeism from school. Children no longer missing school because of the need to fetch water three times a day over distances
Drilling was done down to 65 meters depth to make sure there is enough water to fetch even in the driest season (February-March). First sighting of water came at 30 meters, but water supply was maximum came in full at 40 meters. The drilling was done during the onset of the dry season (no rain for over 3 months already and drought hit the region for over two months also). There is a high water in the water table as water yield came at 100 litres per minute.
On behalf of the community, Elder Batuuro Mwipuoyi expressed his profound gratitude for the borehole coming to their community. Now they can do all the things they needed to do as a community. Able to do domestic chores, farm chores, children no more late or absent in school, their wives delivering their babies without worries and able to build their houses without spending so much on buying water and most of all development will start coming as water is now present.
For Mwinfraa and Samuel, both in basic school, they no longer worry to be absent or late for school to help in the house fetching water and feeding the animals . With the borehole they can now attend to their other needs in the house and in the farm as well as go to school early.
