Safe water borehole for Kore, Eggu, Wa West District
The 300 people of Kore had no choice but to drink the same water as their goats and cattle. Years of constant sickness and skin rashes have now come to an end — thanks to a safe water borehole funded by Empirical Packaging Solution, USA.
Safe water borehole for Kore, Eggu, Wa West District
For the 300 inhabitants of Kore in Ghana’s Upper West Region, the only source of water was a murky river shared with livestock. The water caused constant sickness and skin rashes, yet there was no alternative. As the years passed, climate change made things harder still — a region where water was once adequate has become increasingly difficult to survive in.

The effects spread through every part of daily life. Children were regularly late to school — or missed it entirely — because of the long trek to fetch water. Thirteen-year-old Matilda Ataa, a Primary 1 pupil, remembers the water being so muddy she could barely wash her school uniform. Godfred Teirbeer, in P2, was often late arriving to class. For the women, it was worse: rising before dawn to carry heavy loads of contaminated water, with no choice but to share it with animals that drank and fouled the same source.
Ghana Outlook visited in February 2026 and heard the community’s plea first-hand. Their request was straightforward: a safe water borehole that would ease their suffering and restore their dignity.

Thanks to a generous donation from Empirical Packaging Solution, USA, that is exactly what they received.

Caesar Dabuo spoke of the gratitude felt across the community. “We will never forget the people who gave us the water. We are praying for your health and continued blessings so you will be able to help more communities.”
Baye Banyan Olinaa, one of the women, reflected that she and the other women feel they have regained their dignity — their bodies clean at last from washing in safe water. For Abubakari Fussieni, representing the Fulani community, the words came simply: “Our thank you is not enough, but that is what we can say — and we pray for more blessings.”
